Value as such is something I look for in an article, or object. The value depends on how useful I perceive the object to be, keeping in mind what it takes me to obtain it. If it takes me a lot, and if its use is limited, the value is low. If it is easily paid for, and can be used for a long time for a lot of things, the value is high.

there are people who know the price of everything but don't know the value of anything.
many things of value are intangible; you can't feel, touch or smell them. some such things are trust, respect, self esteem, or esteem toward another.
material things may have value as keep sakes, souvenirs and such. there was a time when people bartered for a living. hence their career or occupation, in time, were traded for things that they needed in turn.
these are a few examples of value important to people.
