We make half-hearted efforts when we simply don't care enough about what we're doing, and when the notion that time is short is simply absent from our heads.

Dear, why are you so much tensed, keep that old saying always in mind, "divide and conquer" if you have a lot of stuff to do with, then first set your priorities and then take them one by one with confidence that you can do it, yes never loose confidence in any situation as confidence is the first step on the road of success and never make half-hearted efforts, always try your best and everything will result as good as you want, one more thing try to love yourself and share your love with everybody around you it will give you a sense of peace and protection that I found missing in your life, keep smiling, take care

Half hearted effort is better than no effort. Full hearted effort is reserved for only few most important tasks like having a good meal or a great evening out with the gf!!

Sometimes people make half hearted efforts so that they can at least appear like they tried. Then they can fall back on excuses to say why it didn't get done or done right. People will do enough to get by on appearences.
Its laziness and apathy mixed with the solely human ability to justify anything that we do or don't do to suit our own conscience.

Also, there's something (if not a lot) to be said for the theory: A job worth doing is worth doing okay. Sometimes if someone thinks they must do something thoroughly and well, they won't even start it. But if they give themselves permission to do it badly, they at least do SOMETHING. For example, a living room you only half-cleaned is better than a living room you didn't clean at all :-)

You've answered your own question, "half hearted". Some people are not full dedicated to a project. They just want to do enough to get by.

One is ambivalent or afraid of failure. Example: You want to lose weight and you don't want to lose weight because eating certain foods is so pleasurable. You are afraid you will not be able to stay on a diet and don't want to risk feeling like a failure.
