What are some sterotypes that are associated with Asian-Americans? Please, no racist remarks ( I realize its a fine line between racism and stereotypes, but no "slant-eyes" stuff). What perceived traits do Asian-Americans have that might discourage one from perhaps voting for them for political office or seeking legal advice(assuming, of course, that the Asian-American in question is a lawyer)?

good q since you're sincere about it........I know that the Japanese, Korean, and Chinese immigrants were discriminated against when they first came to this country, as were most other European ethnicities, depending upon which time they arrived in America. Other than Asian-Americans having a closer relationship and/or understanding at least, of communism and socialism........I can't think of any other negatives. I can see Americans still being skeptical of anyone coming from areas of former or present Communist or Socialist control. If it were 1960 they would definitely be skeptical but times have changed, but the skepticism is still there to a degree.

If you put it that way. I can't think of any. Only Asians I don't care for are the Asian gangs that roam our town on the south side. I have worked with a few Asians and found them to be smart and for the most part hard working. Oh one more thing I don't like about some of them they always seem to be very good at playing poker lol. I have gone home broke after more then one friday night poker game.

I am an American living in S. Korea. I think that the stereotypes might regard Asians as "pushy" and aggressive. Maybe not a bad quality in an attorney. Also, they can be perceived as wanted to do things very quickly. Maybe not the best quality for a politician.

From what I've notice.

The women are more fancied than the men.
The are exploited sexually like all women.
The men are perceived as nerds.
The men are very much over looked, most likely seen in kungfu movies, to where the girls get all kinds of roles if they are hot.
All are perceived as smart, but aren't really recognized for it.
Some girls are perceived to be a little ghetto with their designer cloths and thick accents(like Brooklyn, Jersey, other Urban accents.)

Those are just a few I know

Like all stereotypes that have been directed at various races and ethnicities from Asians to Latinos to African Americans to Middle Easterners to Native Americans and so on, they can be traced back the self-conscious caucasian male.
