Diamonds are pretty, glamorous and extravagant, and it makes us feel good when a man cares enough about us to bestow upon us such a luxury. A woman feels like a princess, and LOVED, cherished actually. I'm sure I'll get a lot of thumbs down here, but come on, I'm just being honest.

de Beers (the worlds largest seller of diamonds) has convinced women that diamonds are a romantic and necessary product. Because they hold a monopoly on the production and sale of diamonds, de Beers can charge what they want and make the gems seem important by creating a rarity of these gems.

because they're superficial and like the idea that buying them cost a lot of money. with no thought that a diamond is just an ugly rock with a lot of advertisements, or what the diamond industry does to people in Africa.

Thanks to a very powerful advertising campaign by the diamond cartel, people have been conditioned to want diamonds and be willing to pay far more than they're worth.
Granted, they are very pretty, but their value is kept artificially high and you can never get close to what you paid for it if you choose to sell it.
