as they pertain to vocals being used on a one time 'community' project?

I'm putting together a project which will include various vocalist from the area (as one group) for the purpose of a sound recording for compact disc.

I understand the royalties, publishing, and (for hire) guidelines, my question leans more towards the 'best' way to compensate these individuals. Approx. 10 tracks, will make up the work.

Asking them to simply 'volunteer' time is out of the question so if anyone has done anything similiar on a proffessional scale and has any idea on the most used and or best course of action here your help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't have to worry about most of the royalties unless the musicians you have coming in actually wrote your music. Just pay them a $60 per track, or $25 an hour. They won't expect anything coming off profits. Studio Musicians are a one time deal, they come in, perform and leave. Keep in mind their voices will tire, and it will probably take several days for 10 tracks.
