They just don't like it because they associate it with Children of the Corn.
If you like it go for it.
I was going to name my firstborn Damien Stanton, but too many people opposed it and I was tired of people telling me what a terrible name it was so I nixed it. That was 12 years ago. If I could go back and have a do over, I would stick with Damien and not care what other people think. I wasn't trying to be cool or hip, I just really liked the name and I still do.
Once the baby is born and named it won't matter. People's initial reaction might be "You called him Malachi? Really?", but once they get to know him, they will associate the name with him rather than the movie.

Yes, unless your husband doesn't agree. It's your son and you can name him whatever you choose. Malachi is a great name and a bible name. Go for it!

I loved that name when I first heard it. When I worked for a daycare a boy's name was Malachi, if you didn't hear this one you may also consider it. His brother's name was Marzae. Good luck!

You should name YOUR baby what you want. That is a perfectly good name, it comes from the Bible. A parent has the right and priviledge to name their child what they want. the only real concerns about the name come from the posibility of mean spirited kids as our child grows and the sound with your last name if it is a boy, as in Kelly Green, I know one. But Malichi is a good strong name.

I love it too and yes you should go with it. I wanted to name my daughter Xiola (pronounced zy-o-la) and no one liked it so it ended up being her middle name and I totally regret that! I wish I had just stoped listening to everyone else and did what I wanted because now it is too late. Don't name him something you'll regret in the end!
