Basketball positions aren't to confusing but they can be if you have never played before. First of all there is a point guard who brings the ball up usually has good dribbling skills and is quick passing. Next there are guards/wing players who shoot and work it into the forwards/centers. Forwards and centers are usually very tall and have some few post moves. Don't worry this all may seem confusing now but it will eventually click in your head.

Point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, center. There's also a swingman, a player who can play both a forward and guard position, but it's not an official position.
