they don't use a ball and chain any more since the advent of superior technology. science has made many great advances in the updating of burdens. for instance, when taken in a literal sense the ball and chain use to slow down a prisoner due to its cumbersom weight. now our criminals are on the cutting-edge of technology with electronic gps tethers.
in a different scenario we see a wife as the symbolical ball and chain to the husband and in my opinion, the most cumbersome thing you can do to burden your life.

Sometimes.
Not in profound ways: forgiveness wipes all that clean, and living worthily of forgiveness keeps it clean.
But regrets can be pesky things. I find it's best to keep up my daily routines, sleep well, and stay busy. Minor regrets never go away but when I keep working towards good stuff, the minor regrets never become issues I have to deal with.

Depends on what sort of past. If its a really terrible one, i'd say its very hard to get over it till you can really move on. But generally, its the person's attitude toward it.

It has but I have adapted and I have to keep adapting in this thing we call life . You can't let your past decide what your future will be .
