What a good question! I am about one month away from finishing my Ph.D. in Film Studies.

I am doing a 'research degree' which is the traditional way -- this means I had to produce 80,000 words of 'original' research. In the dissertation which I'm now editing, I have to demonstrate how I added to body of human knowledge, even by a tiny bit.

After I submit my thesis, I will have to appear before a defense panel for questioning about my ideas -- after that, if all goes well, I will be a doctor.

At both universities where I have studied recently, they offer Ph.D.s by 'portfolio' --this means, if you have large work experience with a lot of stuff already written, you can write a thesis 'report' (usually about 20,000 words) about your prior work, do a defense panel, and then receive your doctorate. You might check out this route. (it's qucker & cheaper)

Good luck, and don't ever surrender your dreams. Even if your dream seems silly to others, do it for yourself.

ARE YOU KIDDING?

ALL TV JOURNALISTS ARE JUST
GRADUATE IN ARTS OR III RD DIV
SCIENCE GRADATE.

THE NOTED JOURNALISTS, LIKE
TIM SEBASTIAN, PRABHU CHAWLA,
ARRON POORIE, RAJDEEP SARDESAI,
PRONOY GHOSH, RAJAT SHARMA,
KARAN THAPAR ARE ALL TOP CLASS
TOPPERS IN EDUCATION AND ALL ARE
POST GRADUATES FROM REPUTED
UNIVERSITIES, AND NONE HAD ANY
DEGREE/ DIPLOMA IN JOURNALISM.

BY SHEER KNOWLEDGE, THEY BECAME
SUCCESSFUL JOURNALISTS.

DEGREE IN JOURNALISM CAN MAKE YOU
A REPORTER OR A READER OF THE NEWS.

IT IS THE EDITORS, WHO DECIDE, WHAT
TO AIR.
