Is it not just as racist to say "Why do white people think they're better than us" as opposed to saying "why do some people think they're better than us?
Aren't you assuming that someone will feel a certain way towards you because of their ethnicity? Go to any homogenous culture (that is, a place that is predominantly made of one race/religion/etc) and you will be looked at as an outsider or different. Japan, for instance, is notoriously bad for teenage biggotry against any non-native Japanese individual.
Even certain Caucasian groups have been historically mistreated. The Irish in America, for instance . . . the Jewish, the Polish, all have been treated badly by their neighboring cultures. However, due to the fact that Eastern European individuals look very similar to one another, they fade into the background and are harder to single out, leaving more ethnic peoples standing alone.
And to answer your question: because the individuals you are speaking about are ignorant. It occurs in all shapes and sizes . . . but racism, at its root, is about the inablity, or unwillingness, to understand a race well enough to trust them despite their differences. After all, humans naturally have a distrust for those who are different, and the more noticeable your differences the easier you are to pick out.

The white people think that they are more advance and knowledgeable. It is true that they have educational system developed earlier than other civilisations. That is because of their stable political situation enabling them to develop social standard including the education for the benefit of their offsprings. In addition, their books give information of other races which were left behind. That gave their offsprings a pride that they are the progressive people and so this produces the situation of the perception of the white people being better than people of other races..

No, I can't answer that question because I am white and I don't believe that I am better than any other race. I didn't choose to be white any more than you chose to be Indian, now did I? And you didn't choose to be Indian any more than I chose to be white. No one chooses their ethnicity and not one is better than any of the others.

Well, I'm white and I don't think I'm better than anybody else. My ancestry is mostly European, but I do have a little Native American Indian in me. Narragansett to be exact. Nobody is better than anybody else. Nobody!

I'm white and don't feel that I'm better then anyone else. So maybe the people you've met have low self esteem and they are ignorant to make themselves feel better about themselves.

skin color does not make a person better or worse than anyone else. wisdom and knowledge help one advance and there are all types of wisdom and knowledge besides book learning. there are things all of us can learn from each other as well as teach each other
