Rights are concepts that belong to us, they cannot be given or taken by any government. That's what Jefferson meant when he called them "inalienable rights". Once born, we have a right to continue to be alive. It is a right we sometimes sacrifice for others, a right that can be snuffed out by a stray bullet; nonetheless, it our right. We have a right to think how we please. Even if others force us to outwardly worship against our beliefs or act against our morals, or if others enslave us, our thoughts remain our own. They cannot be regulated. That is the very definition of a right. Finally, we have the right not to be the property of other people. We can belong with people, but we cannot belong to them. Again, even they outwardly force us into servitude, even if they claim us as property, unless we believe it ourselves, they do not truly "own" us. So even though you asked me not to, my answer is indeed, life (the right to exist), liberty (the right not to be owned) and the pursuit of happiness (the right to think freely). Health care, free press, etc. are important concepts, good freedoms, but these can be given or taken away. Therefore they are not "rights".

I think everyone should have the right to choose for themselves, the govt should not make choices for anyone.
I think everyone should have the right to Privacy. At any given time, the govt can hack into our computers and take all our information to see if we have been talking to people in other countries (this is how they try to scan for terrorists and terrorist harborers) So, beware. If you have been talking to your good friend in India or Saudi Arabia. Then the govt has scanned YOU!
I think everyone should have the right to freedom of speech. Here lately nobody is allowed to say anything they want to say for fear that they will get fired, offend someone else, etc, etc.. I'm tired of everyone walking on
eggshells because they are so afraid they might say something to offend someone else.

#1. If it were up to me, the law would make no distinction between gay and straight marriage. There would be only one set of rights, privileges and obligations and it would be available equally to all.
#2. To have the right to live, and to live in freedom safety.
#3. Everyone should have the right to equal healthcare (The poverty line should not be a predictor of health).

I think what our forefathers had in mind was that you are free to worship or not worship as you wish and do what ever makes you happy unless it infringes on the rights of others to do the same. Of course that is not the way it is but I do believe that is what they had in mind.
