Well, I'll give you one. Mitochondria. Mitochondria are where all the energy production in animals (plants, too, but they also have choroplasts for energy production) that fuels the work of the rest of the cell. The increased surface area benifits the cell by allowing more reactions to take place in a shorter amount of time and small overall area.

mitochondria and chloroplasts. Mitochondria need greater surface area for membrane bound enzymatic pathways to occur. Since oxydative phosphorylation occurs primarily because of membrains, increased surface area is a good thing. Chloroplasts work in a similar fashion as well as increasing the area for membrane bound photo systems.
