India has great sympathy to the Iraqis. After the 9/11 most of the countries are keeping silence on the atrocities on the Muslims all over the World, including the Arab and other Muslims nations. In this situation, India is confused. She does not want to make a wrong step. So she is keeping this 'tactical silence'. It does not mean that India endorse the blunders made in Iraq by the US.
Saddam has been a friend of India from a long time. India does not favour the hanging of Saddam.

India has made a very guarded reaction. It can not condemn the US openly for fear of antagonising the US with whom it has signed a nuclear treaty. It has to depend on the US for other reasons as well, mainly economic. On the other hand India can not say that Saddam's hanging is justified either. That would antagonise oil producing Islamic countries on whom it depends heavily for its supply of petroleum. It would also antagonise the Muslim vote bank at home. Hence a neutral reaction which doesn't signify one thing or the other.
Personally, I think Saddam's hanging is justified in the light of the enormity of his crimes of mass homicide. But the trial should have been conducted by an independent Iraqi government and not by a puppet regime at the behest of the US. This has robbed the trial procedure of fairness.

A `new'pattern is emerging over time, from 1993 in the foreign affairs and international relations in India. It is the building of jumbled up pattern that can be unraveled since it is not really complex.Unlike the limited `internationalism' of a bygone era, when India was active in non-aligned movement, the current jargon is is a mix of extreme nationalism, national interests, regional, isolationalist, jingoism, dreams of becoming a major power since US is very vocal in flattering India on this issue, confused, taking one step forward and two steps back, full of backtracking on commitments toward the `weaker/smaller nations barring some exceptions, focussed on protocols, event managements and so on.India has deliberately, or under pressure by powerful lobbies, distanced itself considerably from the middle east in terms of policy, politics, solidarity, sensible criticism and an anti-muslim ideology influencing policies sporadically not systematically because India is basically secular.Doplomacy in the middle east is economistic, linked to trade and even geo-strategic when the issue [ the mother of all issues] is energy/oil.Formally India has criticised US invasion of Iraq in the parliament but without follow-ups.Even the media is not pro-US on the war in Iraq.On the hanging od S Hussain, you should know thatdeath by hanging [capital punishment] is legally sancioned in Indian justice systen. But in the case if S Hussain, India is not at all comfortable with the manner, legal procedures linked to the trial and the repeated projection of his execution by the media. The disturbing part is related to sovereignty, per se,because S Husain was the president of Iraq for a long period of time. For India, sovereignty is part of internal affairs of the nation concerned and external intervention, that too of the aggressive type is a cause of deep concern.Saddam's hanging, under dubious circumstances, is not appreciated or accepted by civil society. But state policy is dithering because of the emerging pattern.

The first thing is - Why is India being bothered abt for giving its stand of views on International scenes. Cant We just say- No comments & keep quiet. and just to inform, it is well known that India has condemned Bush for going on its own without the backing of UN. It has also criticised & asked to cancel the execution of saddam, though it has nothing to do with the same. and to conclude- Did Iraq condemn the act of terrorist attacking our parliament and civilian transport systems? India has its own problem. please dont drag India into each & every International problems. Remember- as u sow, so shall u reap.

It is unfortunate that you had neither cared to ascertain the correct information that is flashed in all major newspapers / TV channels - of how India had not favoured the war against Iraq itself in the first instance against the UN resolution and secondly how it has voiced its concern on the death verdict of the court...
You should understand that our country had not even condemned the massacre of Tamils - our ethnic people - in Sri Lanka with any seriousness, or the invasion of Tibet by China... But it had voiced concern on the fate of Saddam, not because he was one time friend of ours... nor because he was innocent... but because the way in which an invader while still keeping his military in that country had fulfilled his desire of doing away with the life of Saddam, albeit through the Iraqi court, whose independence could well be guessed...
So it is not the justice that is in question - since the competent court of a sovereign country shall have the right to adjudge in a case based on the facts placed before it - but the justice delivery method - de facto by a victor who conducts "elections", causes trials to be conducted, has policies generated (by its puppet govt) even while keeping the hold (military presence) with the country..!
Have people like you ever voiced any deep sympathy for the death of hundreds and thousands of innocent civilians killed by terrorists in the name of jihad in your own country? Why are you so much carried away by the religious label and apply all standards for sympathy and support on that basis?
It is questions like this and perverted perception like yours that cause every other person to doubt the patriotism and civility of the whole lot of unfortunate muslim community.. May Lord Almighty give you good sense..

Everybody knows that the Iraq government is an American Puppet. If he had go life-term or a delayed execution, it would not have made much difference because we know that Saddam Hessein also killed people in his high times, attacked quwait.
His execution's timing and the way in the holy month has definitly made him a martyr.

Saddam Trial is just, and has nothing to do with India. it is better for all countries not to stick their noses and talk about injustice in the trial, while they do not condemn acts of islamic terror in Iraq. India obviously suffer from those terrorists.

Beggars can never be choosers. India in many an aspects being a beggar including the recent nuclear episode before Bush, how can there be a consistent view on international issues, keeping in faith of the 'vasudaiva-kutumbakam' concept referred in olden days.
India could in no way alter the hanging of Saddam at the behest of Bush, hence no impact on India's view.
