I'm in a little rural town on the coast, hours away from any major metropolitan areas.

You just heard now that Democrats are taking control of Congress? Where have you been hiding for the last 2 months?

And California isn't the biggest part of the explanation for why Democrats are taking control. This state's delegation already was made up of 2 Democrat Senators (that hasn't changed) and a mostly Democrat delegation to the House (33 Democrats and 20 Republicans in 2002 and 2004, now it'll be 34 Ds and 19 Rs -- just a one-seat gain for Ds in this state).

Why are you picking on California?

I'm not from it but I sure as heII am in it, up to my eye brows and sinking fast.

Unless you are on welfare, this ain't the place to be. A working man ain't got a prayer.

We had a housing "bubble", yes, I will call it that. Home values inflated beyond belief and then the bottom dropped out and folks in my neighbor hood are now upside down in their house. Some bought at the peak with interest only or very low interest starter loans and those loans are starting to balloon. I know a guy who bought at over 400K, got an interest only loan for 2 years, and now the house is worth 300K and the payment is doubling. He is going to loose that house and still have payments until he clears the 100K difference.

And guess what, it doesn't look any better for tomorrow. If you work for your money, stay away, it takes at least three salaries to be comfortable here. And comfortable doesn't mean two new cars and caviar, it just means not having to go in debt to eat.

As much as I love living in LA, I have to say that I'm ashamed of how most Californians vote. Feinstein, Boxer in the Senate, Pelosi in the Congress, The California legislature Democratically controlled for decades, and if that's not bad enough we have the Peoples Republics of Berkley and Santa Monica.
You might ask how I can stand it. All I can say is the weather is great and the life is very good. As long as God Blesses I will remain here, except when I'm in Europe or Japan or Singapore. I like a little change once in a while.

I live in California. And you're right. Taxes are a bit high here. But... it's such a nice place to live! Isn't that how capitalism works? The people with more money deserve to buy better things and live in better places?

California will always be my home. I'm proud to be a Californian and an American. But thanks for reminding me I'm lucky to live in a great are. Nice try with the being ignorant though. :-)

That sucks so much because our parents pay high taxes and it does not go toward fixing the roads or the schools. In school we textbooks that are completely falling apart isn't that wat the taxes should go to? How about our roads?
