I'm also in the same situation as you right now. Do this; search the Internet for utility companies in the state/city you are going to live., once you find out who they are, send them an email with your future to-be address ask them if they service that particular area., if they don't, they will likely provide you with a list of other utility companies that service the county/city so you can contact them.

Some Utilities now require by law under the Patriot Act to know the identity of the person{s} requesting service., in order to verify your identity, they will check your credit report., Once they see who you are and how is your payment history, they will determine if you need a deposit of not in order to establish service.

A realtor is not a personal assistant - I've never heard of one setting up utility accounts for a purchaser.

Your realtor could probably give you a list of all applicable utility companies for your house. Otherwise, contact the local Chamber Of Commerce for the list.

go to whoever the utility company is sign up and pay a deposit (usually $150 which you will get back in about 2 years or so)

I did mines online. I just went to connect my phone and they have everything that you need to get connected in your area right there on the site.
