I need to add more memory for my PC cause it's slooooowww. There are so many kinds, I'm not sure how to find out what specific type it need. There are so many that look a like. Is there a way to find out without having to open up my computer? I have a HP Pavilion that I bought in 2000. I have upgraded to windows XP. Your help is greatly appreciated.

What processor do you have?

Do you have the exact HP Pavillion model? From this, you can look it up at HP's support site and it will tell you what type of RAM you need.

Considering your computer was bought in 2000, I would estimate that your computer needs 168-pin SDRAM. I think it is a little too early for DDR.

the easiest way to be sure is to go to crucial.com any they will tell you exactly what you need. Be sure you are correct, hp's are unforgiving. Also, might want to get everest home edition {free} and you can even find the numbers on the ram. Good luck!

Places like http://www.crucial.com have memory configurators that help you pick the right memory (and it's cheaper usually too).

Another option is to go to the PC manufacturer's website and download the manual for info on what you need.

slow does not mean lack of memory, just full of garbage from the net, just need to clean it up or buy new. upgrading as you done has not cleaned up your system. unless your a computer wiz, it's cheaper to buy new.
