.xm files are music files but no one seems to know they exist. I was wondering if anybody has heard of it and how to convert it to .mp3. And NO it does not have anything to do with XM radio.

Wow! Haven't heard anyone talk about .xm music files in a long time! Well I used to use this program Mod4Win to play my .mod files but it would also play screamtracker .s3m and .xm files as well as some other Amiga music files. I really enjoyed the way Mod4Win played them too as it had surround and ambience sound processing and made them sound real nice. It could output to a WAV file and you can compress this to MP3 format with any audio software. You can still download Mod4Win which is now freeware at http://pjeantaud.free.fr/mod4win/m4w-2_40.exe

Alternatively, with plugins Winamp will play .xm files. It might be built in by default now, just try it first. Personally, I do not feel Winamp plays then in stereo as nice as Mod4Win but it will work. After installing the plugin (if it isn't installed already) make sure you can hear the .xm file okay. Then go to properties, plugins, output, and select waveout. This will output to a wave file when you hit play. Switch it back to directsound when done.
