It's been going on far to long to be a trend. Loyalty to certain teams and enjoyment of watching games is often, quite literally, taught by father to son; which is a fair definition of culture.

Trend it is not, hundreds of years has it been played and supported (fanatically), sung are hymns of football - of almost religious fervour, heroes are players - legends even, enjoyed by millions I see.
