For my money, the best windows you can buy are "Marvin Windows". They began manufacturing windows at their plant in Warroads, MN many years ago. Warroads, MN is just south of the Canadien border in one of the coldest areas of the lower 48 states. Their windows are very energy efficient and the quality is second to none. You won't find Marvin Windows in stock in any lumber yard or home improvement warehouse because all of their windows are made to order. Marvin Windows are pricey, but in this instance, you get what you pay for. Here is a link to their website:

Good luck with your window selection.

Pella is a good name brand as well is Gienow if you are looking for some energy saving windows and good soundproofing go with Pella and spend the extra money on vinyl instead of wood alot less maintenance and hassle. Have fun shopping and make sure you get quotes and references from your installers atleast
20 from each cover your butt.

I think Pella windows are one of the best. A bit pricey though, but they come in very elegant designs, energy star.
