Chess is considered a game, not a sport. There is a difference between a game and a sport. A sport is something that requires grueling physical activity. A game is something that requires grueling mental activity. Therefore, chess is a game, not a sport.
P.S. I have no idea why the hell NASCAR is considered a sport.

Chess is not a sport.
It is just like any other
indoor game.
It is played between 2
players.
It is a metal, mathematical
game, where there are
several permutations &
combinations.
It is better version of Checkers
/or Ludo.
There are no time limits to
play the game, but there are
defined time for each move.
The population, which plays
chess are less than a fraction,
even in the playing countries.
It is considered to be a boring
game, as others cannot read
the minds of the 2 players.
This game can be played
anywhere, even on the roof
tops, where just 2 persons
can sit with the chess board.
Maharajas/kings of India, used
to play this game for passing
time.
The Britishers were able to
establish their colony in India,
because many kings played
chess, during the invasion
of the kingdom of the rulers.
Wazid Ali Shah, was the emperor/
ruler of Awadh, who was conquered
while he played chess.
