in norse mythology, it was the war that ended all wars. it was the war that killed almost of the gods, but balder lived. the world that existed after that was only the mortal world, because balder chose to be silent or something.
when someone makes a mention of armageddon, they are pretty much saying the end of all things

Armageddon is a Greek word for a place in Israel. In Hebrew, "Har" means hill or mount and Megiddo is a place. Har Megiddo=the hill of megiddo=Armageddon.
