I would love to read a great book. I am wanting a really thick book and I really don't care what it is about (romance, horror, science fiction, etc....it don't matter...i get into them all). Plus I am also looking for a REALLY REALLY scarey book. So if there is anybody that would please give me your oponions and let me know what one you are commenting on that would be great!! Thank you..

I have read the book of Sacajawea and that is a really thick book ( I think something like 1500 pages). I am looking for something that thick or thicker. And please, when you respond with a title, let me know if it is scarey or thick.

Read something by Dean Koontz. He's awesome. The first one I read was Intensity. It was intense. LOL.

On the same lines as "The Exorcist", "The Omen" was one of the scariest books I have ever read. It is not thick. I completely agree with "The Shining"- thick and scary. You can add SKing's "Carrie" to that list.
Great books that are thick:
Crime and Punishment is a good, thick book, but you have to make sure you get a good translation.
The Hobbit and Lord of the RingsTrilogy (epic/fantasy) Lots of reading there.
I, personally, love anything written by John Irving. (The World According to Garp, The Hotel New Hampshire, A Prayer for Owen Meany, The Cider House Rules...) All of his books are long and very interesting. They are not scary- they are always about human relationships between unusual people.

I once read a book so scary I had to close my eyes.
I can't remember what book it was.
On the subject of really long and really interesting, you can't get much longer or more interesting than the bible (although you should totally skip the and he begot....and he begot...section). And parts of it (like the end) are really scary.
The Harry Potter books feel really long if you read them all together.
As for really scary, Nevil Shute's "On the Beach" is really scary in an eerily realistic way.
And if you haven't seen "The Exorcist" the movie, the book is way frightening, too. It was written before the movie by a guy named William Peter Blatty.
"The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson is creepy, but not entirely scary.
Best of luck!

By thick book do you mean lots of pages or something profound? For good and long books I agree with Les Miserables, it is one of my favorites. War and Peace is the definitive door stopper, and is also very good. I will also recommend Moby Dick and The Brothers Karamazov.
Are you interested in non-fiction and history? The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich is considered the authoritative history of Nazi Germany. It is very informative, but the author is extremely verbose.

You could read Les Miserables (unabridged) by Victor Hugo. I don't know if you've read it or not, but it is an amazing (if very detailed and wordy) book. If you do get it, get the Signet Classics edition (It's got the picture of the little girl on the front, with a grey background). It's the best translation out there.

How about the Eragon and Eldest books?? They are thick and not really scary though. Eragon is about 500 or so pages (but the font isn't too big) but I'm not sure about Eldest I haven't read it. But I am reading Eragon. I don't really like scary books seriously but I don't mind thick books I'm quite young so The Book of Lies probably won't be much to you but it's really good trust me. There's going to be a sequel to it but I'm not sure when it's coming out! So Eragon, Eldest or The Book of Lies. Not that thick but good books!!

i'm an avid reader myself, but i can't say i've ever read a book that scared me. i have read "horror" books, but none that actually made me experience anything close to horror.
a really good long book....
i can recomend, off the top of my head:
Atlas Shrugged - really really good and really really long. interesting, very philosophical, good for some serious examining of where you stand in the scheme of things
Crime and Punishment - very introspective. a sort of psychological thriller, really.
if you need more details or more books, feel free to send me a message through my profile. also, are you familar with bookcrossing? if you're not, definitely send me a message. as an avid reader, you'll want to be in on it.

The scariest book I have ever read is Stephen King's The Shining. When I read it a couple of decades ago I hadn't seen the movie and knew nothing about it. I was scared to stay home by myself at night....lol...funny now, not so much back then.

The Stand by Stephen King is excellent, thick and scarey (maybe not 'really, really' though). The Shining also by King scared me when I read it too.

Anything by Dean Koontz or Stephen King. For Koontz, I recommend Mr. Murder and for King, I recommend The Stand.
