I've been talking to this guy I met online. He seems to be nice and all. He asked if we can meet somewhere in a public place. I'm not sure if I should do it or not.

I would say go for it if you feel like he is legit. But be careful. Do make sure it is a very public place and let others know where you're going and such. Meeting people off the internet has a bad stigma but it does not have to be a bad thing. I met my roommate/bf on the internet 3 years ago. We chatted for awhile, talked on the phone, used webcams. Then when we were ready, we met in person, in a very public place and hit it off. We became fast friends and soon started dating. He is now my best friend.

But like I said, be careful, not everyone online is legit and a lot are pervs. It's probably a good sign that he suggested to meet in public. Just go with your guts though.

Not trying to talk down here, but a lot of it has to do with your age and good common sense.

Anyone can portray themselves in a seductive or gentle manner over the internet. The danger of it though, is that person could be anyone and may have another agenda. Maybe he wants to follow you home (tail you unnoticed) or try to discover what school district you're in. Then he'd have all the time in the world to discover your household routine - when you are most likely to be alone, what path do you like to take on your way home, do you have any protective pets, etc.

I'm not trying to scare you, but you never know...is it worth the risk? Probably not.

If you can't seem to turn the offer down, then be as smart as you can about it. Meet the guy a good distance away from where you really live. Do your best not to give any details on your job, school, house, or last name. Go with a friend who can watch from a distance unnoticed. Make him earn your trust. Above all, make sure SOMEONE KNOWS about this just in case something happens...

I don't think you should meet him. I think that maybe you should just exchange numbers. Or you should set up a webcam and see them on your webcam so you at least know what they look like and see if their nice.
