Because it's was designed by men and they thought about when their wives go off on them. So the alarm in a sense is going off by tell you to get you lazy a@@ out of bed.

same reason people call whole corn "corn on the cob" when that's really just regular corn the way it comes out of the ground and they call shucked corn just "corn" when i think it should be called "corn OFF the cob"
