what country are you from? It really depends on where you are and what you want to study. I live in the States and while our grade schools and high schools are terrible, our higher education is world class. Europe has excellent schools as well. I will probably study abroad a semester just to experience foreign culture.

Well It could be culturally and socially benefitial. Since you will emerge and integrate in a new culture, perhaps you'll get a sense of different cultural adaptation, even learning a new tongue other than your native. Studying overseas also promotes a sense of awareness of what is going on the world- giving the possibility of meeting new people, appreciate diversity. Most universities in other countries are academically excellent such as the ones in the United States (e.g. harvard, princeton, duke, yale, standford, brown, etc), in the uk( oxford, cambridge, university of london, durham) or even in Scotland ( university of aberdeen, st andrews university). Getting a degree from one of these prestigious universities open higher possibility for employment.

If you're from the states, definately try at least a year abroad. Not just for the experience, but because generally, places like the UK and Canada have better education than we do.

Im not saying the States dont have good schools, but the general atmosphere and level of education is very different in other places.

Depends.

For a Masters in Philosophy, can UCLA beat the Dahlai Lama?
For a BS in Breweries, can Boston College top Munich University?
For a PhD in Marine Biology, can Harvard beat Sydney, Australia?

And for a degree in Roman Studies, can Johns Hopkins top a college in Rome?

On the other hand, can any of those colleges top CalTech or MIT for a technology degree?

I think it is not good for you to go to other countries. Real education is in yourself. Your discipline and your love to explore really matters most. There are lots of references for yopu to use, so why do you have to go to other countries?

yes, but i think it also depends on your field of interest. because whatever you learned abroad might not be approved here back in the states. i think studying abroad for one semester or two is a fantastic idea. it really widens your perspective.
