As a rule of thumb if the agency is out on the street or in a mall they are more interested in getting you to join their school or buy thier photography sessions but eventually you will be confronted with the need to give them money. No true agency charges for its services except taking a percentage of your earnings or getting paid a fee by the company that would hire you to model. There are known agencies that do manage to get you some crummy model jobs in unknown mags once in a great while but they are few and far between. These thrive mostly on getting money out of people who really want to be a model or on tv which is a lot of people. So its a lucrative business lying to people and telling them they have the look or the talent or some crap to lead them on and get them to fork over the money. Dont give them fake info. Dont give them any info. Just keep walking.

Sometimes scouts do look for talent at malls. I believe Playboy had a Playmate of the Year that was found at a mall about 15 years ago. Make sure you get a business card and research the talent scout to make sure they are legit and not just some pervert or a company looking to take your money. Good luck.

It's a huge scam, real talent scouts have better things to do then hang out at the mall like a bunch of pervs, next time spray'em with mace!

You are probably right. It wouldn't hurt you to look into it though.
Always go with a friend or family member, never alone.
If they ask you to pay ANYTHING up front, it's a scam.
Even for pics, if they really want to represent you, they will take that money out of your first job.
I am a former model and I was taught the basics at an early age.
by any chance are these scouts from John Robert Powers??
If so, AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!
they just want to suck your wallet dry.

i dont blame you if you are being cautious but people dont just say you're special for no special reason.. is that how insincere you think people nowadays are? you should have at least tried to find out if it was a scam or what---- well that if you really were interested about becoming a model...
