If fish are fighing you will know because fins will get torn up. If they are just playing there will be no bodily damage. You should really consider taking 1 goldfish back to the store though. A 20 gallon barely big enough to support the bioload of 1 fancy goldfish, much less 2.(assuming you have fancies, if not, you need a 75 gallon tank for both of them.)

Although I have to admit 2 in a 20 is much better than what some people on here do. Like people who put 10 feeder goldfish in an uncycled 10 gallon tank and then wonder why they all die.

But still, you do not have enough room in that tank for those 2. So either take 1 back or get another tank.

If they are fighting you will see torn/frayed fins, even bloody spots on the fish. If they are fighting it is because they are in a tank that is much too small for them, i would suggest either taking one back to the store or setting up a tank that they will both be happy in. Goldfish actually need quite a bit of room to be happy and live a long time.

Tiger barbs are nippers whilst the aggression isn't controlled in colleges. Goldfish have distinctive desires than tiger barbs and should not be housed at the same time; you're preserving a tropical and a chilly water fish at the same time.

Keep them together and if they are only playing you may end up with some baby fish's. If they begin to look sort of chewed up, you need to separate them.

put the divider back in if you are so worried about it.

Angelfish do the same thing, I've also had other fish do this. Fish do it, It's just gonna happen, but if worse comes to worse put the divider back in... duh.

Separate them or they will kill each other.
