Yes is a great band. Listen to their old stuff though. "Close to the Edge" is my favorite album. "Fragile" is good too.Their newer stuff sucks. Owner of a lonely heart makes me wanna puke. The greatness of their early stuff was in the surreal aspects of the lyrics and the music. The newer stuff is so blatantly pop. It blows chunks!

Very good, good band to start with if you are going to get into prog. They are from England as most or quite a few prog bands are..Nowadays there are more bands from here in the states.. Try them out, Drama for instance or maybe newer: 90125, or Big G3nerator..

LongSnapper said it perfectly !!!! This is how I feel about music myself and how I listen to music. Prog on!!!

Yes is great and you've been given a good list of their albums. Definitely get, or listen to, Closer to the Edge and Fragile. King Crimson, Emerson Lake and Palmer and 'early' Genesis great too.

Yes was a good band. They didn't always play mainstream stuff and were a bit alternative even in their own time. Overall, they are/were extremely talented musicians. I play guitar and that guy's stuff is downright nasty sometimes. I like em. They kinda reemerged in the 80s with some good hits...Owner of a Lonely Heart single pops in to memory. Give them a listen.

Try listening to the Album 90215

Every song on that album is great including:
- Owner of a Lonely Heart
- Leave It

Their early 70's stuff is really good. listen to the song "Roundabout"

Sometimes these questions are difficult to answer.

The best way I can answer that question for you is to explain to you why I like them.

I am a musician, and I tend to like bands who's music I can appreciate because they possess a higher level of musicianship, and they challenge me with their mastery and their prowess.

They've never done two songs that sound alike. Their arrangements can be simplistically beautiful or complicated as hell. Also, at the time they featured one the two most schooled and technically proficient keyboard players of the time. Rick Wakemen, when he joined the band with their "Closer to the Edge" album, and Keith Emerson of Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

But even with all this "crap" the main thing is that you have to listen to them, and judge for yourself whether you like them or not!

Phenomenal, if you like Classical Rock, which I do. Very class act. If you like them, check out Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, King Crimson, and early Genesis when fronted by Peter Gabriel.
