Or am I just reading the message about shows jumping the shark and being doomed to fail on Yahoo!'s main page wrong?

I wondered the same thing. The notion of "Jumping the Shark" also goes for when a show experiences so many chances that it's not the show it was originally. I'm assuming that this is what they meant in regards to ER although I thought it was still doing well with ratings.

I haven't seen anything to indicate it's been cancelled or even that this is its last year. Most things I've read of late have said its ratings are actually up this year over a few previous years and a lot of the credit for that is being given to the addition of John Stamos as a regular in the ER instead of just being on occasionally as a paramedic.

No, the new season just started. But I think Carrie must be leaving the show since she resigned in the ER episode tonight. This is a great show , I sure hope they don't replace it with another crime show. Too many on now.

I think ER jumped the shark when they had Romano get killed by the falling helicopter. What? Was the helicopter out for revenge or something?

Hasn't been cancelled and they just aired a new episode tonight. As a matter of fact, the ratings for this year are better than they have been for several years.

If they're jumping the shark, that means they think there's still hope.

good question. I wouldnt know but if they have, you could try Grey's Anatomy as a replacement if you haven't already given the show a chance.
