8y-24=6y+6
2y=30
y=15

Cross multiply:
8(y-3)=6(y+1)

Use distributive property:
8y-24=6y+6

Subtract 6y from both sides:
2y-24=6

Add 24 from both sides:
2y=30
y=15

Check:
(15-3)/(15+1)=6/8
12/16=6/8
6/8=6/8
