Nothing-- Free-ballin' is the way to go! j/k, but seriously, just some underwear. Even though your pants are thin, they're insulated, so your body warmth should be plenty. I've been in -4 degrees weather at Breckenridge, full day of riding, and didn't feel the need for anything extra under my snowboard pants.
The most likely scenario, if it's cold and you wear underpants, is that you'll sweat in them as you warm up during your first run, then get on the lift, and while cooling down and sitting still, once the cold hits your sweaty pants, it's just going to make you colder than you would have been in the first place. Then you'll be miserable for the rest of the day. Just stick with some boxer-briefs or something. On a really cold day, you might feel chilly at first, but you'll warm up as you get a few runs in.

I wear long underwear, some kind of poly-pro or wool blend. You should never, ever wear cotton. Cotton absorbs water and looses 70% of its insulating qualities when it's wet. Poly-pro base layers will not only keep you warm but they wick water away from your skin. Wool blend stuff is very warm and it retains it's insulating properties if it gets wet. Just be sure to get a blend, straight wool is itchy. You shouldn't wear anything baggy as tight fitting long under works better because it wicks your moisture away from you, thus keeping you warm, dry and comfortable.
As far as another Answerer said about wearing three pairs of socks, that is one of the worst things you could do. That many socks will increase your foot volume by at least a full size. Well, when you cram all that into your boot you are going to constrict all the circulation causing your feet to get cold. One pair of socks (remember, no cotton) is better than a lot of socks.

i personally wear three different types of clothing under my pants, it all depends on the weather. if its mild i usually wear somthing like basketball shorts, if its normal winter temperatures i go with pajama or lounge pants, and if its really cold, i wear under-armour
the trick is not to be too hot or too cold. u dontwant something bulky or thick underneath, that way you create a pocket of air between your two layers. this will keep your body temperature comfortable all day

They're thinner to provide room for the underlayer, but also to provide room for the "armor" that many riders wear today. Many riders wear a an underlayer with an intergrated padding system to prevent bruising or breakage when playing in the stunt ditch or the park.

Sometimes I wear jeans, pj pants or sweatpants but they are not the best choice. Long underwear or thermal pants work nice and keep you comfortable. Shorts would work too but your legs might get cold.
