The second (positive) line is often more faint than the first line. If you can see that second line, no matter how faint, the test has come back positive.
Usually the more further along in the pregnancy you are, the more bold the second line will actually be, because you are producing more of the lovely pregnancy hormones.
There is only one way to receive a false positive on a pregnancy test and that is if you have given birth in the last two weeks.
To put your mind at ease, go get some blood tests done, they will be able to give you a definate yes or a definate no. It is recommended to have a blood test done anyway if a DIY pregnancy test comes back as a positive.
Good luck and congrats!

If that second line showed up before 10 minutes then it is a positive result so congrats!
The positive line is really faint. Is this okay? An HPT tells you exactly one thing: your urine either has detectable pregnancy hormone in it, or it doesn't. The darkness or lightness of a line doesn't mean much. Generally speaking, a very light line can mean there is a small amount of hCG in your urine, and a very dark line can mean there is a larger amount of hCG in your urine. This is why you may get a faint positive at 10 DPO but a darker positive at 18 DPO. However, this is not always true. Tests are all different, and even tests in the same box may differ in sensitivity. Comparing light/dark lines will just drive you nuts. If you see a line in the "results" window, you're preg!

I took several tests and talking with the Birth Right ppl and reading my manual very carefully AND calling the Pregnancy Test people, I found out a faint line IS a sign of pregnancy. You're pregnant! Well I'm 99% sure!

The home pregnancy tests sometime have faint lines. You are probably positive... you should maybe go to a doctor and have a blood test taken, because they will be more accurate. When I was pregnant with my first child, even into like the 3rd month I was still showing up negative on a home pregnancy test.

I would recomend for you her to take another test and if it still the same or it comes out negative, just got ot the doctor because the best thing will be to get a blood test done, there's nothing more accurate than that. It is usually normal for the second line to show a bit lighter, it happend to me too and now my almost invisible line is going on 4 years old soon, so early congrats!

Sweetie, if a second line shows up, no matter HOW faint, it means she is pregnant. Unless she has had some kind of HGC shot to induce ovulation. And I'm assuming she hasn't. I think that you are going to be parent. And that CONGRATS are in order. Good Luck to you.
(my first pg test was faint with my daughter and I was 7weeks)

EXACT same thing happened to me. I called them and checked the website (you can too...it just depends on what brand you have) and SHE IS PREGNANT. If you waited hours to recheck and there was a line, than she would not be pregnant...I mean, hours after taking the test, they all show positive. But if you checked it within minutes and even the faintest tinnyest line appeared...she is pregnant. Congrats? :)

Even if a second line shows up, no matter how faint, it stills means that the test has shown up positive.

If its early in pregnancy the HCG levels may not be high enough to cause the line to turn a darker shade of blue. I would buy another brand of test and try again or even wait a few days if it is early in the possible pregnancy.
