Mal Moore (the AD at Bama) has sucessfully made my alma mater the laughing stock of college football. He prematurely fired Mike Shula after winning six games in the SEC with almost no talent. However, not even 12 months ago, he was worthy of a contract extension and pay raise but now, he's not even worthy to be the coach. Hmph!

So Bama crapped on Shula, the concensus was that Bama crapped on Shula and no one in their right mind would take that job after the way he was treated. Why? Bama has consistently showed itself to be a program still drunk of the legacy of the "Bear" and a program not willing to commit to any coach becuase they cannot accept that a coach must build a program and usually cannot win right away.

No one in their right mind except for Nick Saban of course. Isn't it ironic that Bama maps out an 8 year deal and a fat check during the tenure to show that it is willing to be patient and commit to a coach that has NEVER been commited to any program? What do you think?

This will be very intriguing. The fact that Saban did little in the NFL with the Dolphins and leaving for after (I believe 2) 2 years for another squad he feels he can turn around in a 180 degree turn in a small amount of time will not pan out. If Saban's first 2 or so years at Bama don't culminate in winning campaigns and prestigious bow bids, then Saban will leave before Moore can can fire him looking for another fat paycheck from someplace that wraps itself in the delusion that he, without much talent on their squad, that Saban can lead them to a golden age.

You are right; Shula was treated shabbily. However, as an ardent LSU fan, I have to tell you that Saban is a great coach... and a really great recruiter. He knew he was doing poorly in the pros, and he wanted to go back to NCAA. (hello... Spurrier did the same thing!)

So the man knows that if he stays with the Dolphins a couple more years and continues to SUCK, no college in the nation would try to hire him! I say good for him; he got a great contract and a great deal of security for himself and his family. Can you blame him for taking this job?

As for Shula, I really think he was doing a good job at Bama. He took over a program with a lot of problems and was successful! The powers that be need to watch themselves. There will NEVER be another Bear, and they need to accept that!!!

Sabans contract is guaranteed and he has total control over the program. Exclaty what he wants. Sounds like a prima donna to me (and get got SIX pages of media coverage in one alabama local paper) but I wonder who will take over Oklahomas program once that Moron Stoops gets fired for that embarassment of a bowl game.
