on my job for 7 years. only making 11.00 per hour. i have been overlooked several times for assistant managers position, over the years i have been asked to fill in as assistant manager. doing my duties as well as the assistant managers duties, thinking that it may lead to me being promoted to that spot. and everytime they've hired an under qualified male for the position, having to be trained for the job that i was already doing, and i would be the one who would have to train them, not knowning that they were be trained for that job, i was being told that they wear countermen or being trained to work at another location. one time i was told that there was a hiring freeze, and the assistant managers position couldn't be filled, that it was not enough money in the budget, cause payroll was to high! but there is an assistant manager at my location whats up with that?. thanks over-worked and over-looked!

How much you make is relative to where you live so that doesn't say much.

As far as discrimination you need to:
List every time this has happened. Include the Date, the person they hired, The amount of time you spent as a fill-in in each case. Who and what you trained. What was said to you and by who. Get signed statements from co workers (previous workers too) verifying as much as you can. make it very clear and put it all in chronological order. To sum up - names, dates, relevant facts (not opinions), and witnesses.

you also need to step outside of yourself and see if it's not just you! This is very hard. Is there something you do or don't do over all that makes you an "average" employee but not one good enough to promote? Ask some coworkers out side of your problem for an honest evaluation about your strengths and weaknesses. Are women promoted in other parts of the company as this will really hurt your case?

If you come to the conclusion that you are seriously being overlooked then take all of your data to an attorney.

Go talk to a lawyer that specializes in corporate law. Make the appointment and talk to someone and see it there is enough evidence to put them down. they deserve it that's for sure. If it can be proven you need to do it because this is America and we are woman, hear us roar, not squeak. Right?
