A literature survey class is one which deals with several works that have something in common, ie, Survey of African Novels would include 5 or 6 novels from African writers. (That was a really cool class.) American Poetry survey would be several American Poets.

This is as opposed to a Literature Intensive, which would focus on one novel or one author.
