My hamsters (i have 2) have lost their energy since my friend brought her dog over. They acted the same way when he came. They were perfectly fine before the dog came. They seem really distracted. I play with them. I dont know what i should do. I got them about a month ago. One of them is pretty young. You could tell that the other one had birth, she is a bit older (i think) than the other one. I put them in seperate cages. They have been that way for a while and seem fine, until the dog came and got them distracted. What should i do? Will they get better?

If you stroked or played with the dog, its very possible that the scent from the dog has transferred to their fur. As they have have such poor sight, they have to go by smell and this could have really freaked them out. They might also think the dog is a predator and so not dare come out much. My advice would be to get rid of all the doggy smells. (I'm not anti dog, I have one myself) - shampoo carpet etc, change the hamsters bedding and then leave them peace (dark and quiet) to see if they come out in their own time. hope this helps.

they should. just try to make sure that ALL of the smells of dog are gone. you could give ur hamsters extra trest, like apples of boiled, peeled eggs or carrots...anything really like that. but try to get them out of the area they are, maybe into a seperate room that is not drafty [to prevent any illness] and then most pet stores sell vitamin drops that can prevent or help cutre illnesses that may have occured. hope that your hamsters getbetter, in sure they will and have fun!
