equine.com does charge a fee to list your stallion with them. The only free places I have ever seen is a feed store or a tack store that will let you post a flyer. If your stud has points or is a money earner in an event (such as racing, roping or cutting), I would spend the money to get him advertised to as large a base of people as I could. Most of what you are going to get from "free advertising" is a bunch of backyard breeders. And since the mare contributes at least 50% to the quality of the colt, do you really what a mare that may produce an inferior colt, because this is what is going to be representing your stallion. www.agdirect.com isnt free but it is only $10 per year. Its a great site. I would check it out.
