a little elaboration is needed i believe. I am a complete beginner on the guitar. i will never perform for big groups its really just something i've always wanted to do. mostly i would just play with some of my friends who are also interested. What guitar (preferably a package with amp, etc.) would best fit my needs. I definitely can't spend more than 200 if that. I would like to stay closer to 100-150 dollar range if that is at all possible.

goto these websites.....I recommend the Fender Squire they are good guitars....I have one.. but i also have a Fender Stratocaster USA....if you want I can elaborate more via email. I can help explain the diffs. if you have questions. email is peace_frog001@yahoo.com Just put guitar questions in the subject line...I'll be glad to help....I've been playing for over 10 yrs. I've seen, heard, and played lots of guitars, You can even take a cheaper guitar and make it sound almost identical to a top of the line one over time, especially when $$ is tight! Done that for one of my friends. Hope this helps!

Your biggest concern should be a guitar whose "action" (the height of the strings above the neck) is good. As a beginner, your fingers will be somewhat tender for a while until they build up tougher skin.

I've been playing for over 40 years and I've seen a lot of beginners give up, for a number of reasons.

If I could, I'd give them a guitar that only cost $100 if it just played decent, and believe it or not, I've seen plenty of cheap guitars that played pretty nicely.

I'd suggest your local music store. Most stores have a good selection of used guitars. You might like the Fender Squier Stratocaster. Fender also has a regular Stratocaster made in Mexico that has a great sound and is reasonably priced.

Try these sites:

They offer package deals and you can also just browse to see what you like.

There are plenty of low priced Squire packages out there. It's good you're looking for a cheap package to learn on before finding a guitar that feels good. However, I would recommend learning on acoustic...very much. It will help build finger strength. It may be less fun not having distortion but it will help in the long run.

When I first started I got a Fender Stratocaster copy. Depending on what kind you buy, it's in the $100-$150 price range.

outch
... 200... let me see... pawn shop, 150 would get you an ok guitar and 50 bucks roughly 20-40 w amp, for 150 you have chances of getting a bad guitar or a really old beat up but you never know you might get a good deal, get someone you trust that knows his guitars ask him to tell you what he think about it

guitar center or musiciansfriend.com. B.C.Rich Kerry King starter pack is cool. the main thing is what feels good to YOU. A comfortable lightweight guitar is what to look for first. Then listen to the sound of it.some can sound pretty muddy. Good luck!!!
