I'm trying to decide between Hotel Administration, Human Resource Administration, Marketing, and General Business Management. Can anyone tell me the advantages and disadvantages or these degrees? Really any information at this point will be helpful. Im also looking to choose a University in New York City. Any suggestions there? Thanks so much :)

In my opinion, General Business Management and Marketing aren't worth squat. Perhaps if you start your own business they'll be slightly useful, but most of what they teach in Marketing is a) academic, b) irrelevant to the real world, and c) rarely what they practice in real marketing departments. And nobody will look at your degree and say, oh, THERE's an expert, let's hire him.

Hotel Administration and HR Admin are at least specific, and you stand a chance of taking them somewhere when you graduate. Just make sure to get in early with a company where you can intern and learn the ropes, so you have continuity between your education and your job.

good luck.

I was a general business mgmt major with concentration in international business. I decided to pursue law instead of business, but I have found that my degree gave me a broad base of knowledge applicable to many fields.
