I gave a few names i have been considering for a girl or boy. I had many good responces as well as not so good ones. Its ok, i did ask for oppinions and honesty is what i like so its no big deal what the ones who didnt like my names had to say. BUT MAN some can be really mean. actually they made me laugh. its amazing some of the messed up things people can say. SO my question is: why do people have to be so hateful? saying u dont like it is one thing BUT going on from there and totally making the name into something its not is totally outragious. I guess if it makes them feel better about them selves..... what ever; right?! LOL

I am used to negative responses in any category like: newborn/babies, pregnancy, baby names, polls and surveys, etc....
Instead of me giving negative responses unlike other narrow minded people, I give suggestions and try to be open minded as possible. Even if the question doesn't make sense or if I disagree. It's not my place to judge.
Maybe other people that respond to this question will deny it, but they're just hypocrites.
So I am in the same boat as you are when I ask an innocent question and I get a lot of negative bias responses. I just give them a thumbs down or I just ignore them because they're not the ones who's gonna get 10 points anyway.

Like for example, I asked a question on newborn and babies because I got jealous of my friend having a baby (I lost a baby 10 months ago) and she kept on showing her baby's pics and hers after I told her I couldn't look at pics right now because I'm still grieving. And she kept on talking about her newborn after she knew that I lost a baby like she was flaunting it or something. And I got negative responses like "Maybe your friend would be better without you because I wouldn't want someone raining on my parade!" and there were other mean responses.

Another question I asked was "How do you pronounce Hannalei" and there were judgemental responses like "You shouldn't give your child that name if you can't pronounce it!" First of all, did I say that I'm going to name my child that name? Did I say I'm pregnant? I asked for your opinions on pronounciation. I'm not asking you whether or not or how I should use the name.

By the way, I gave you a thumbs up!

? ? ?

Why would anybody post names in this section if they didn't want honest opinions?

You 'did ask for honesty.'

If the name, to somebody, honestly makes them think of white trash, or looks like something that'll get a lot of teasing, or isn't spelled correctly -- why on earth shouldn't somebody point that out?

And, _every_ time I've seen one of these "Why did people give me mean answers?" questions, it turns out they barely got any. If one. Let's see...

Here're the answers you got, beyond 'I like it' stuff --

they re weird names but u could use jazmin for a girl and `christain

i dont rlly like them...ur children are going to get made fun of...no offence

I knew 10 year old boy named Blaze. Blaze always sounds like weed to me.

Zane sounds too much like "zaney", which means crazy. And Zeta sounds corny.

I like the fact that these names are unusual. However, having names that are too unusual is asking for a child to be teased. I'd give some second thoughts to Zeta.

I love both Zeta and Zane. They are both so cool.
I am not the biggest fan of Marie for a middle name because it is so commonly used. I also don't care for Blaze.... I only dislike Blaze because I knew this super dorky guy named Blaze...

To be honest, Zeta sounds like a prescription medication
How about Zoe Marie?
Blaze sounds like a knife like blade.

Too weird. The kid will get picked on all the time.

Try some normal names for example! Or your kid will be bullied for the rest of his or her life! Try Andrew, Savannah, Amanda,

Etc, etc, etc. You asked for honest answers, and you got them. Nobody was "mean." Definitely not "hateful."

I question what's going on with somebody so insecure that all they want is "I love those names! Ur the greatest mother ever! Those r so cute!"

If you put yourself out on the internet, you need to be open to whatever people say. If you post potential baby names for millions of strangers to respond to, don't expect sugar-coated answers.
I don't know you. You're not my friend. You asked a question and that question should be answered honestly. If you're so sensitive maybe you should reconsider posting personal questions on the internet.
The lesson to take from this: don't ask for strangers' opinions if you can't handle the answer.

I think people take advantage of the anonymity that the Internet has to offer. They throw out insults and hide behind it. You were asking for opinions so of course you'll get a mixture of responses but it is unnecessary to be down right rude. If you don't like it, just state that you don't and why not. I think people have forgotten basic etiquette, Internet anonymity or not.

i agree this is a forum to express your opinion and ask for suggestions, why people hide behind this platform to say hateful things they wouldn't normally say is sad because this is supposed to be fun but you choose a name you like. Good Luck

It's easy to be brave/mean behind a screen name, but these same people would not likely have the guts to say these things to anyone in person. Unless they are completely socially retarded.

I am an 8th grade teacher and I always tell my students that people who are mean are those who are not happy with themselves. They feel better by making others unhappy and putting them down. It is their way of trying to make themselves feel good.

How sad for them.

No, it doesn't mean they make themselves feel better.

To answer your first question--I dislike all of those names, but they are going to be your children and it's up to you.

When you ask a question on Y!A--people answer, honestly. That's the beauty of it.

I can understand when people say "That's horrible. You are a bad mother." or "I'd tease your child for that name." BUT when you ask people will answer honestly. If you think someone will hurt your feelings or the question is just too personal, don't ask it! Just strap on your big girl panties and realize that's what this site is all about.
