I personally feel that happiness is not something that can be defined. It is a side effect of where/what we are doing at this time. I is not/can not be the end result.
As an example, many people work their entire lives, being miserable, in order to "achieve" happiness by having the best stuff, just to discover that their bodies and spirits have broken down in old age and they are not happy in the end.
On the other hand, many others seek out jobs that bring them satisfaction throughout their lives. Maybe they don't have as much "stuff", but they do what they enjoy, they travel, they live life without worry. They are happy as a side effect of their attitude towards life itself.
Your question, what is happiness, can't be answered by me, or anyone else. What I deem as happiness, sitting in Yosemite Valley, painting Half Dome or El Cap, or jumping out of an airplane at 12,500 ft might just make you miserable or fearful; where for you happiness might be found in a library, an amusement park, or just sitting on the couch.
You must define it yourself.

Happiness is an emotional or affective state that is characterized by feelings of enjoyment and satisfaction. As a state and a subject, it has been pursued and commented on extensively throughout world history. This reflects the universal importance that humans place on happiness.

It depend on person to person, some ppl will be happy when they play video games alone, some ppl are happy when they are playing sports with friends, some ppl like to go shopping, etc. You cannot define happiness for each persons definition is different for everyone is different... happiness is simply a English word used to define an emotional state, like sadness, depression, excitement, and compassion...

I believe it is a state of mind, a good one. One you would get when just about everything is going from well to very good. Most things, health, well being, financial status are going as you planned. A happy person has a positive attitude and feels good about things local and global to him or her. I also think people are genetically predispositioned to be happy, their chemical makeup tends to make them happy. I think this because I have known people with very little to be thankful for, seemingly happy!

according to different ethical views, happiness might be one goal in life, the only possible goal, or a fortunate by-product of the pursuit of other goals. Happiness might concern one's aggregate of pleasure or require a complex balance involving virtue, pleasure, achievement and good fortune.
When you have once seen the glow of happiness on the face of a beloved person, you know that a man can have no vocation but to awaken that light on the faces surrounding him; and you are torn by the thought of the unhappiness and night you cast, by the mere fact of living, in the hearts you encounter.

Perhaps happiness is the perception that life has "meaning" and that our roles in life are congruent with that "meaning." But I think it also has to do with roller coasters and sex and pizza with beer and walking around in the rain just as a thunderstorm hits on a warm summer's day.

Happiness is contention, that is you being satisfied with yourself and the person you are. Respective of what other people think, say or do, your not bordered at all. You feel inwardly enriched and you sense you have that with money can not buy.

Our natural state of being is to be happy. When you remove all the uncomfortable emotions we humans can experience (and they are numerous), you're left with happiness. So it's easiest to define happiness by what it is not.
