Depends on the state. Many states give credit for good time which cuts you time in about half.

Depends on what state you are in. Some states give good time credit and a few other incentives to basically get you out quicker due to how many people are going through the prison system at that time. The prisons are so full they are throwing a lot of time out of the window for inmates cause they need to get more in. It also depends upon what your charge is for. In Texas, if you commit an "aggravate" crime, you will have to do a minimum of 85% of your time no matter if you are good or not. And sometimes they up the 85% to 100% depending on a lot of things.
