Yes, people with pets do live longer.
When people get older and start to feel useless as a productive member of a family, having a pet could give them a reason for living. This is not always possible, especially for those who are not physically capable of taking care of a pet. But for those who can, it gives them a reason for getting up in the morning, because a pet is depending on them.
It has been proven that petting an animal lowers blood pressure and calms people down, gives them something else to focus on instead of thinking about their own problems. I've seen the faces of people light up when I visit nursing homes with my dog and cats.
For me, I have to live forever, because nobody I know is willing to look after my pet rats.

Me with pets lives longer. I don't know about "normal" or "sane" people, but right now I'm hanging on by a dog. It's a matter of I don't trust anyone else with any of my animals, not even my mother. Let's put it this way, both my parents see their kids as possesions with no rights, where do you think that leaves the pets?

no offence but some people thinks that is stupid i mean you dont need a pet to live longer if its your time to die then its your time you cant cheat on death
