I have battled with depression for several years now. I was previously on remeron prior to pregnancy and immediately stopped upon learning of my pregnancy. I am now 25 weeks. I have struggled with my depression every day, every moment, of this pregnancy. I think I have reached a breaking point. I do not get out of bed unless I have to and I am constantly sad (more like devastated). My depression has NEVER been this bad! I am seriously considering talking to my OB about taking anti-depressants. The only thing is that I am terrified of the risks to the baby. I would not forgive myself if I was not able to "tough it out" and the meds had some effect on the baby. I would like to know any of your personal experiences of pregnancy and anti-depressants and how your children were affected. What are considered the lowest risk anti-depressants during pregnancy? I would like as much information as I can before I speak to my doctor.

If you don't know then please don't answer. Telling me to ask my doctor does not answer the question I asked. I am going to ask my doctor. I am seeking some background knowledge to assist in making my decision.

I am 9 1/2 weeks pregnant and was recently on Zoloft. I have had 2 previous miscarriages. My Psychiatrist told me that he didn't want to take a chance being on an anti depressant during pregnancy. He as lo stated that when you are pregnant that your hormones are on a rise. And that you don't need to be on an anti-depressant while pregnant. Almost like nature takes its course. However he did say that as soon as the birth of the baby I needed to be put back on, for the fear postpartum depression.

However, considering your situation I would definitely talk to your doctor. There isn't any scientific proof that Zoloft can cause harm to the baby, however they thought the same thing about Prozac and paxil and it has recently come out that it can affect a pregnancy. Talk to your OB and then see a psychiatrist about medication.. You could also try counseling???

Best to speak to your doctor. I was on Effexor before becoming pregnant (150 mg daily). When I got pregnant I was worried about staying on it, but my doctor said that the risks were extremely low and the benefits were very high for staying on it.

i took lexapro while i was pregnant, there is no perfect anti-depressant to take while pregnant but if you are struggling with depression now you need to be on one becuase it is likely the the post partum depression will kick you in the butt and that wont be good for you or the baby!!!

there isnt anything you can take--all of them will affect baby somehow--even ones with the lowest doses possible.
you really need to speak to your doctor before--they will set something up to help you without the aid of pills.

good luck!
