For me, it depends on the situation. I am a christian. Therefore, I have certain beliefs that makes it easier to accept when a christian friend or relative dies. I know that person is just fine after death. But, I cry because I miss that person and won't see them until I myself go to be with my God and my christian friends and relatives who have gone before me.
If a non-christian friend or relative dies, I cry for that person and for me. If I don't know that the person has gone to be with God, my heart hurts for them. ............And I cry because I miss them.

Death is unusual event that strikes our minds, when you see it happens to relatives or friends you feel that no body is away from death, and no body will live forever. We cry because it is a very sad thing that happens to someone we love, we cry because we will be in the deathe situation one day and we don't know what will happen after that, we cry because there are many people who died and we didn't cry when they died because they are not relatives or friends.
One should think deeply, I am right? I am doing good things? I am following the righteous road? Because no body knows when he will die!

True Their is no need to cy if someone dies though we may miss thier association. We are never alone Only when one is covered by the veils of illuiosn (Maya) they feel alone. We have to get in touch with our eternal friend who is actually situated in teh core of our heart. If we think of Him at teh time of death we go directly to His Supreme Spiritual Abode and never return here to the mateial world which is temporary and full of mistery. go to krishnaculture. for details. Chant the Maha Mantra to get in touch with Our Maker also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. Read Bhagavad Gita As it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. Gives the understanding of the eternal soul and purpose of life. And never be alone again.

It depends on whose death it was. Maybe they fought a long illness but will suffer no longer - then we grieve for the person we have lost, and for our own pain. Maybe they died too soon - then we grieve both for our loss and the life that they should have experienced. And sometimes we grieve more for the survivors, because we wish they didn't have to feel the pain of losing someone they lost.

People cry because loss is hard sometimes unbearable. Even though we know the person is not in pain we miss them and miss the time we spent with them. We think about the memories and about what it will be like without them.

Alot of people don't realize that the reason they cry is more for themselves than for the deceased. What I mean is that they'll be mourning the missing part of their life, as opposed to crying for the person that has passed on. This is perfectly normal.

i believe the human race is a selfish, see it as we are now without the person who is now dead. its now FOR the person who died, its more for us and that we need them and do not have them anymore. And some religions believe its a release so that would also prove my point of selfish behavior, crying for we are now alone.
