Yes, gelato in Rome is quite the experience at Giolitti's. Giolitti's has been there for almost the entire century (the last one, the 20th) and will be there for the rest of this one, too. It's north of the Pantheon and west of Piazza Colonna (the piazza that has Marcus Aurelius' column in it). Look for the green sign on the building. Try the riso or the champagne flavors. The bacio is nice, too. Giolitti. Don't eat gelato without him.

Oh boy ! Do the Romans love their gelato ! You couldn't go wrong at most of the gelato shops throughout Rome. The stuff is thick and super-rich A real treat. It is not like the ice cream places in the U.S.-- a totally different taste.

I checked on the internet, and several websites mention one name "San Crispino". There are a couple of locations listed. Sorry. I can't say more than that, as I have not had the pleasure of eating there on my stays in Rome. But it sounds like it is worth checking out.

Good luck

The Best Gelato in Rome:
San Crispino is touted to have the best gelato in Rome. I was first led there by the Daphne Inn, one of my favorite places to stay in Rome. I have since heard of San Crispino from several other sources as well. They make a variety of flavors but pistachio is supposed to be one of their best. Although I am not a big fan of pistachio, it was very good.

Just Gelato at San Crispino:
At San Crispino you won't find any special concoctions - no whipped cream or chocolate sauce - in fact you won't even find cones! The owners believe that anything else interferes with the pureness of their gelato. So the gelato is served in a simple cup with a plastic spoon for you to carry out (there is no place to sit).

ANY gelateria!, really any. I live in Italy and love their ice cream. Another thing is that some of my Italian neighbors love American Neapolitan ice cream? Shocking to me because gelato is the best. Enjoy, but be careful brain freeze happens no matter where you are enjoying ice cream. Enjoy your trip! Wow your going to have fun.
