When you say running a little slower do you mean that when you are downloading or in general after the program has been terminated. Limewire depending on how you set it up may be running in the background even though you are not using the program. This may cause some of your machines resources to be in use. My recommendation is to check this and remove from start menu and have it so that it only activates when you call the program up.

It's not LimeWire, it's crap that comes with things you download with it. Get a good antivirus program like AVG, and a good anti-spyware program like Spybot Search and Destroy.
These will help keep viruses and spyware that you get through Limewire onto your computer.
Another thing that could be slowing down your computer is internet use through Internet Explorer.
I would recomend getting Firefox (getfirefox.com)
Firefox is much safer and than Internet explorer, due to the fact that it is less open to spyware and adware, malicious software that makes your computer slow.
Browsing the Internet with Internet Explorer exposes your computer to these types of software, simply by browsing the internet. This is because IE is not as well written as Firefox and because it is installed with almost every computer that is bought in a store, so it is what most people use. Since most people use it, it is targeted by the writers of this harmful software who wish to use your computer as a spam/pornbot or sell you something.
Google for all other links.

Limewire does not have the potential to slow down a computer with dsl, however, if in use, it can slow down how long it takes for your computer and other computers to connect to the internet, as it uses much of the internets speed to connect to the internet.

Anything that is downloaded to a computer slows down your computer. I suggest you defragment your computer at least once a month to keep it running fast. I have a dell as well and I use limewire like it is my life. Just defragment your computer often and you should be fine.

Limewire does take space in your computer, but I guess downloading songs will make it even fuller. Your DSL will not be affected though.

I used limewire with DSL few years back. I never had issues with it. It might be the issue with your firewall or something.

YEAH! When it's open it will slow it down. The program is great. Go to your Options and limit the number of uploads at one time. It let's you download files from others and vice versa. The more files that people can download from your terminal, the slower yours will be.

Yes, if you upload files.
DSL is usually 3.0 Mbps download and 512 kbps or 1 Mbps upload. So the upload will saturate very quickly. Use LIMEWIRE options to turn off upload (file sharing) -- or limit the upload connections to one.
