Sounds dumb but it will began to "squeak", change it then. Rule of thumb.

It needs to be replaced when you start to see small cracks on the inside part of the belt.. Not sure where you are from but in NC , that is checked during the yearly state safety inspection..

A serpentine belt should last at least 50,000 miles and some even last 100,000 miles.

i own a repair shop,and i replace them every 30 thousand at the most,,they might look good,,but i have seen new ones break in less then a thousand miles of driving,,as a rule of thumb,,replace that and do a good maintenance on it every 25-30 thousand,,and it will stay in good shape,,good luck hope this help,s.

Check it out. If it is starting to crack in places or if the groove are showing sings of wearing then you want to get it replaced ASAP. DO NOT wait til it breaks.
