When i have to hold the gas down and it takes about 5 seconds to start as it slowly putts up. Then i have to give it gas for a minute or two otherwise it will just die. When the car is warm, i can turn it off and it will turn right back on, but if it sits for even 5 minutes, it's hard to start all over again. I've noticed a less gas mileage and lately it wants to die when i put it in neutral and come to a stop. any ideas?

when was the last time you filled your fuel tank? you may have a "bad tank" of gas, once it is running is there a coloured type of smoke comming from the tail pipe? if there is a black smoke you may need to clean the top end of the motor because it is gummed up, this usually happens with higher milage motors that run in the city more than the highway, another thing to consider is when was the last time it had a tune up? i've seen cars that have bad spark plug wires or something in the ignition system that allos the motor to run but not well. and the last thing to check which is the least likely but possible, is the TPS sensor, which is the throttle position sensor, it is a sensor so if it is out of whach or faulty it would need to have your foot on the gas at all times because it doesn't see the idle setting it needs and dies out right away........i had a mazda protoge 5 it was a 2002, so even though your car may be new and in awesome shape electrical stuff can still fail, hope i could help!

Actually, I would check/replace the EGR valve. I have seen very similar behavior with a bad EGR valve allowing too much exhaust gas back into the system. This will also kill your gas mileage.

i mechanic for a living,,and it sounds like it needs a good tune up,id also check the gas filter in it,and the air filter also, you may also want to do a check on the fuel pump,,it may be getting ready to go out, this is how they do when there going bad,,there's a lot of things that can cause this,,you have to check all of this and rule it out one thing at a time, that's why mechanics charge so much,,good luck hope this help,s

Your car should start without stepping on the gas. I would check or replace the coolant temperature sensor.
Have you done a tuneup, plugs, wires and filters.

I would try a complete tune up first and go from there.
