We were thinking about Dorpers. Any thoughts or suggestions? We would like to start with about 20 sheep this spring and after researching online, it looks like hair sheep or Dorpers might be the answer. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. We have Black Angus cattle now.

I would say the Dorpers would be your best bet like you thought. They seem to be the best meat producers as well as having prolific lamb production. Have you given any thought to meat goat production? They are very profitable in states like Kentucky and Texas. I don't know about South Dakota. Just a thought.
